Launching the Amazon Forum Task Forces
During the May 2008 Steering Council Meeting, the participants resoundingly decided to convene the Amazon Forum in Manaus, Brazil in Spring of 2009. The Council designed five task forces to move forward with the planning and execution of the Amazon Forum: promotion, fundraising, logistics, participant preparation and programs. Each task force met in July to decide on protocols for holding subsequent meetings and determine the best methods for communication within each the task force. Fundraising is a key task force, and if you would like to offer any support you may contact: amazon@amazonalliance.org.
Preparing for Meetings of Member Organizations
The Amazon Alliance will convene a number of workshops throughout Amazonia to prepare member organizations to participate in the Amazon Forum. These workshops will address the Initiative for the Integration of Regional Infrastructure in South America, (IIRSA) and look at different strategies that can be used to confront IIRSA and similar problematic projects. Workshops will also pertain to current climate change strategies.
